The first Practice week

This week we had the first practice week. I am in a school in Over Jerstal, along with Manu.

We have a very nice mentor in the school, Karin. She guides us and we also follow some lessons with her.

The most of the lessons we just have to observe, but already this week on Wednesday we had to give 2 French lessons. We have a really nice class. It are 5 pupils and they are really motivated to learn French. We tried to give them of every skill a little bit. We spoke, listened and wrote.

On Thursday and Friday I had some interesting conversations.

We (Manu and me) think that the level of discipline in Denmark could be better. We also talk a lot about this issue with other teachters. I always say that the accomodation in Denmark is excellent compared to Belgium. But the pupils could be listening better. When I tell that in Belgium we have something like school rules, teachers are often surprised. Ok, I admit that we have maybe to many rules, but sometimes I think there are to less "rules" in Denmark. There are no consequences for behaviour that sometimes needs consequences.

But I am going to try to learn more about this topic in the next 2 weeks!

Visits!

During the Easter weekend I got a visit from a friend, Frederick. He arrived Friday Evening.

After a dinner we went to town. First we visited Jesper, and then we went to town. I showed him Ras and Craizy Daisy. After a nice night we went home.

On Saturday we went to the beach. By car. And we went on the beach. Also by car. We went to Romo. It was a very good trip. We drove up the sand hills and on the sand for about 3 hours! You can see the pictures in the section "Frederick in Denmark".

After our drive on the beach we went to Ribe to eat something. We also took a little walk in the old city center.

In the evening we had a birthday party with Iva, Sylvie, Thora, Kate, Ota, Frederick and myself. We played some games, solved some riddles, drank some wine and had a lot of fun!

On Sunday we could let the child go! We went to Legoland. Despite it was could, Frederick went in short trousers like you can see on the pictures. We visited the Lego Studios, Pirate Island, Cowboy Town and also the Power Builder. It turns and twists you up and down. Very nice!

In the evening we went to see ice Hockey. Vojens won the match with 4 - 2. It was really exciting and a though game.

On Monday we slept until we were awake. In the afternoon we went bowling and in the evening we went to the football match against Vejle. Despite the loss it was a interesting game.

So, twas wat the weekend!

Haderslev Fodbold Klub

Sport is very important so Manu, Daniel and me decided to join HFK, Haderslev Fodbold Klub.

Last Saturday we had our first training match. We won it 6 - 2. Today we had our second training match. We lost it 3 - 4.

The game today was a difficult one. We only had 12 players, and Daniel injured himself during the warming up. He tried to start the match and he played well, but after a while he couldn't continue because of the injury.

After the first half, we were 1 - 2 behind. Then after the pep talk during the break, we were able to come 3 - 2 in front. But then, when our 2 strikers had a little injury and they couldn't exchange we lost 3 - 4 in the end. Despite the circomstances, it wasn't a bad game. Off course we hope to win our last training match, on Sunday 30 April.

I aslo added some pictures from the game.

Tim

International Week in a fairytale...

Tim in Haderslev land

Once upon a time, there was a little boy called Tim. He was a brave boy. He liked adventure, beer, women and football. After a while, Tim began to grow and grow and grow.

When Tim was very big, he decided to explore the world. So that is why he ended up in Haderslev, Denmark. Overthere he met some people:

The Evil Daniel, Princes Charlotte, Petit Manu, the one of the other bad part of the country and the three mermaids with their beautiful voices. And off course Jette, the Special One!

In the beginning everything went fine. From time to time, Evil Daniel tried to kidnap one of the three mermaids. But the brave Tim always managed to stop him.

So it became they ended up in "International Week Land". In International Week Land they met people from Austria, Germany, Portugal, Holland and Denmark. They tried to know each other and had a lot of fun!

On Monday, Tim met the 2 Portugese Bulldogs. They were very friendly, and one of them is staying at Jette's place. Tim also got in touch with Nice Marije from Holland, and a lot of other people. After the different body language games, Tim went home. You have to know, during the weekend is Tim a hero. So he had to wash his clothes because being a hero is also being dirty.

On Tuesday there was a lesson with stereotypes. Every group had to present a country in stereotypes. It went very good, and Tim was very happy that his beautiful country was represented in the right way!

In the afternoon, we went to Ribe. And despite being a hero, Tim couldn't change the bad weather. In Ribe we also visited a very beautiful Viking Museum.

In the evening, Tim decided to watch some football with José, one of the 2 Portugese Bulldogs.

On Wednesday there was sad news for Tim. The teacher's son where he had to do an observation with Petit Manu was ill so they couldn't go. In the afternoon they found out that the dancing teacher also was ill, so it was little bit an ill day for Tim.

On thursday there was an international afternoon where everybody came to share his experiences with the others. And in the evening there was an Eurosong Festival competition. Tim, Charlotte and Marije did all they could, but unfortunately the jury was bribed so they didn't make it to the finals. Or was it because the singing talents weren't that good....

On Friday we had to present our Portfolio and we had a little farewell lunch. Because this was already the end of the week!

The most important things that I learned this week:

- Not in every country you can shake hands and just kiss on the cheeck. In Denmark they have the culture to hug!
- In the schools of Denmark there is a lot of freedom for the pupils, but sometimes also a lack of discipline. Pupils in Denmark like to go to school, but sometimes they have to much freedom!

Big discussion!

On friday 29 february we had citizenship and globalisation. In the beginning I found this a very difficult course. I didn´t know what the goal was. But now it is becoming clear to me.

During this course, we had to present how we in our country work on this subject. I had to present it with Charlotte and Manu for Belgiu. I presented it for the primary school (6 - 12 years old). Charlotte and Manu presented it for the lower secondary school (12 - 15 years old).

In Belgium we don´t have a subject called "citizenship and globalisation". It is something hidden. We work on it all the time. Some exemples:

- We have student councils where they can give ideas about school;
- The pupils have to respect some rules. Because in daily life, you also have to handle with this rules. This rules are arranged by the teachers and everybody knows them.
- ...

In primary school we also have a subject "World Education". In that subject we also try to make the pupils aware of their citizenship trough "educations" like peace education.

Then the other countries also had to represent their citizenship in their schools.

After this presentation, we had a discussion. We had a task. We had to explain what were the biggest challenges to handle with at school. For exemple "globalisation of the world". Is this good or not? How can we do something against it?

After this we had a big discussion. It was about the freedom of speech. Were the papers right to publish the cartoons 2 years ago and now again? Or made they fun of the Islam? That was the hot topic. The discussion lasted for an hour, and after it we were really tired!

In the afternoon we had Danish with Leif. We had to make some sentences with the words we already learned.

And after this, it was weekend!

Physical Education Jump

Thursday 28 february we had our first lesson of Physical education. Because of a fault in communication we didn´t have our lesson on tuesday.

It was a lesson where we had to learn a jump. It seemed difficult, but the teacher showed us how we had to do it in different steps. In that way, it became very clear. We practiced the steps, and in the end we did the jump. It wasn´t that bad, but I´m afraid I need a little more practice to complete it very well!

The king and the princess

On wednesday 27 february we had to make a story. The teacher gave us a song, and we had to make a dialogue with it. I worked together with Charlotte and Manu. We invented next story:

There was a princess who wanted to marry a prince. But her father didn´t like the prince, so she couldn´t marry the prince. At first, the princess begged to marry her prince. Then she became mad and at the end she started crying.

I played the princess, Manu was the king and Charlotte showed the pictures.

The the others also had to made a story. You can see their results on their weblogs! I think it was a good performance of everybody.

The 2 German students, Finja and börries, also attended the show. They saw everything was very good!
